Katapola

 

One of the largest natural harbors in the Cyclades, Katapola enchant visitors with their simplicity and beauty. They consist of three picturesque villages, Katapola on the south, Rachidi on the east and Xylokeratidi on the north.

 

In the center of the village of Katapola is the small church of Panagia Katapoliani, an ancient Christian monument, while the mountainouns volume of Moudoulia hill over the village forms a unique natural landscape. St. George, the largest church of Katapola, with its characteristic blue dome, stands in Rachidi. Xylokeratidi, where the dock used to be in the past, got its name from the carob trees that fill the place till today.

 

Katapola is an ideal destination for travelers thanks to the many quality choices for dining or entertainment in its taverns and bars, and because of its proximity to a lot of beaches. The walk from Katapola to Xylokeratidi around the beach, especially at sunset, is a wonderful experience, as land, sea and sky create a breathtaking landscape.
